Show me what can die in my life
Show me what will hurt most to give up
For the childless
They gave up their sons
For the poor
She gave up her mites
The widow
She gave up her sustenance
The Anointed One
To step into destiny in his own time
Choosing death rather than control
Giving up his destiny again and again
To establish eternal kingdom
The sinless gave up his right to sinlessness
Bearing all sins in death
Gaining life eternal
He who had a home chose homelessness
To gain the eternal city
Whose builder is God
Giving up reputation with man
Gaining reputation with God
Moses gave up his title as prince
Choosing reproach
And became leader of a nation
Standing in the presence of God
Give it up, give it up
Give up what you love
And what seems good
For it is the way
Of the heavenly!
Giving up the right to strategy
Walls come crumbling down
Showing up to war
With horns and torches
And clay pots
No weapon in hand
And winning utterly
For the dread of the Lord
That went before
Those who lay aside reasoning
And the way that seems right to a man.
